My only concern is that in adopting such a model for large scale commercial application by large and often private American universities, the values and dedication of people like <span class=\"proflinkWrapper\"><span class=\"proflinkPrefix\">+<\/span><a class=\"proflink\" href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/109526159908242471749\">Stephen Downes<\/a><\/span> and <span class=\"proflinkWrapper\"><span class=\"proflinkPrefix\">+<\/span><a class=\"proflink\" href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/112869117429645144444\">George Siemens<\/a><\/span> who pioneered the early MOOCs will be lost and such courses will just become an industrial treadmill for students.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My concern exactly, especially since these courses seem to ignore all the past history of learning at a distance and learning online.<\/p>\n<div class=\"g-crossposting-att\">\n<div class=\"g-crossposting-att-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pontydysgu.org\/2012\/02\/moocs-are-here-to-stay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MOOCs are here to stay<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"g-crossposting-att-txt\">John Naughton is one of the most thoughtful of mainstream newspaper writers on new media.
